Now a day’s message display boards are used at different places like railway stations, public places, universities, colleges, hospitals, general stores etc for giving information. Scrolling message means sliding text vertically or horizontally. Scrolling doesn’t change the layout of the text but moves the users view across what is apparently a large message that is not wholly seen. They can be used to attract the attention of viewers also. Suppose if a message written horizontally longer than will fit on the screen, it can’t be display completely on the screen. By using scrolling message display units the viewers can see the message. In our project, we will use the horizontal scrolling.
In this project, we will learn How to scroll characters horizontally in a 20X4 alphanumeric LCD with AVR ATmega16 microcontroller. First, we will display “ABLab Solutions” in 1st row, “Bhubaneswar” in 2nd row, “www.ablab.in” in 3rd row and “info@ablab.in” in 4th row of 20X4 alphanumeric LCD. Then, we will scroll the displayed characters from right to left. The characters can also be scrolled from left to right. To scroll it from left to right, send the command 0x1c in place of 0x18.
The step-by-step connection guide for Horizontal Scrolling in 20X4 Alphanumeric LCD with ATmega16 is as follows
